Dr. Steven M. Kleen
Dr. Steven Kleen graduated summa cum laude from Southern California College of Optometry in May 2015. Prior to pursuing a career in eye care, Dr. Kleen played five seasons of professional baseball with the Oakland Athletics. Steven grew up in Temecula, California and went to Chaparral High School. He attended Pepperdine University where he played Division I baseball. He was honored as a Division I All American and Academic All-American as well as Pepperdine Scholar Athlete of the Year. Dr. Kleen graduated with a degree in Sports Medicine. When he is not seeing patients, Steven enjoys surfing, biking, and spending quality time with his wife and four children.
In regards to eye care, his interests include specialty contact lens fitting, myopia control, ocular disease treatment and management, and sports vision. Dr Steven Kleen was honored with the Practice Excellence Award by VSP for his commitment to private practice optometry.
Dr. Steven R. Kleen
Dr. Steven R. Kleen graduated cum laude from the Southern California College of Optometry in 1979. Steve Sr. met his wife in 7th grade in Des Moines, Iowa and they married 10 years later. Two of their four children live and practice here in the area. Dr. Kristen Hughes (oldest daughter) is a Pediatrician here in Carpinteria. Dr. Steven M. Kleen (son) is now practicing with his father at Carpinteria Eye Care Center. Steve ran track and played baseball at NAU. Steve Sr. was the recipient of the Apollo Laser Award for Low Vision Excellence and Founder and President of the Retinitis Pigmentosa Fighting Blindness Inland Empire Chapter. Steve enjoys biking, going to the gym, golf, pruning roses and watching his grandchildren grow.
Dr. Teresa Mayhew
Dr. Mayhew is pleased to be celebrating over 30 years of practice in Carpinteria. Dr. Mayhew, a Southern California native, earned her Doctorate of Optometry at the Southern California College Optometry in Fullerton, CA. She did her internships at the Veterans Hospital in Westwood and Las Vegas with an emphasis on ocular disease detection and treatment. She finished her undergraduate work at California State University Northridge with a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry and Biology.
Well-liked and respected by patients and colleagues alike, Dr. Mayhew enjoys all aspects of practice. She is licensed to diagnose and treat foreign bodies and red eyes. She is glaucoma certified in the State of California. She has served both her community and profession tirelessly, currently serving her 27th consecutive year as secretary of the Tri- County Optometric Association. Dr. Mayhew enjoys spending time with her family and doing projects around the house.
